Department OverviewThe function of the Radiologic Technologist within the Department of Diagnostic Imaging is to perform all phases of technical diagnostic imaging. Radiologic technologists operate X‑ray equipment to capture and develop images for medical diagnosis, delivering high quality, cost‑effective, family‑oriented service. This position promotes OHSU’s mission by integrating education, research, and clinical leadership and works with infant, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
Function/ Duties of Position Imaging
- Provides quality images with accuracy and efficiency, using optimal skills and knowledge of all equipment.
- Technologists will be trained in all general radiology exams/areas so that they can rotate through the department based on workflow needs.
- Utilize the VIP transportation system to arrange patient delivery.
- Position patient for diagnostic radiology exams according to department procedures, training, and machine requirements with a high regard for safety and patient care.
- Operate radiology equipment, determine and set exposure factors, and configure technique to ensure accurate and high‑quality images with minimal repeat rates.
- Use computer image processing as needed to select, process, optimize, and archive images to PACS.
- Completely track exams in the Radiology Information System.
- Develop and present images and related patient information to radiologist for diagnosis.
- Assist with patient transport by moving patients using standard procedures.
- Assist in training Radiologic Technology students and adhere to department policy on student supervision.
- Gather complete documentation of all pertinent information to provide accurate and timely service.
- Identify patients correctly per department procedure.
- Review patient chart and orders to ensure correct examination.
- Label images completely with demographics, position, and other needed documentation; follow department policy on anatomical markers.
- Log activities, gather charging information, and charge exams as required.
- Follow department and hospital procedures and policies.
- Perform quality control and assurance, record results, and report variance from normal equipment function.
Required Qualifications
- Current student from an approved Radiologic Technology Program.
- Completed student competencies under the approved program and within 4 months of graduation.
- Graduate of an accredited diagnostic radiography program that meets current qualifications to take and pass the ARRT board examinations upon hire.
- Student candidates must obtain the RT(R) certification within 6 months of hire date.
- Candidate must have a current Oregon Board of Medical Imaging temporary license for student hires and permanent license for registered hires.
- Valid OHSU approved Basic Life Support CPR card.
- Demonstrated skills in diagnostic imaging, radiation safety, effective equipment use, record maintenance, infection control, quality control, compliance, patient communication, contrast media, problem solving, judgment, teamwork, and initiative.
- Experience with OHSU‑partnered Radiologic Technology program.
- Level 1 Trauma Center experience.
- Academic Medical Center experience.
This position works in a busy environment with frequent interruptions, multiple demands and continuous interaction with patients and other medical professionals. It requires exposure to radiation, chemical solutions, and human tissue/fluids.
