Overview
Oregon State Treasury is recruiting for the position of Unclaimed Property Auditor. This position helps plan and implement compliance efforts to ensure business and public entities adhere to Oregon’s administrative rules for unclaimed property and evaluates overall compliance through audits.
Responsibilities- Assess overall compliance with unclaimed property laws for Oregon businesses, non-profits and government agencies. Determine audit strategy to increase compliance from Oregon companies. Prepare and implement audit plans based on audit strategy and in accordance with auditing standards. Evaluate results and adjust as needed.
- Review, analyze, research, and evaluate holder records to determine compliance with Oregon’s unclaimed property laws and administrative rules. Review holder internal controls and analyze the procedures used for determining dormancy periods. Identify potential assets that are outstanding and reportable.
- Prepare audit reports outlining specific findings and recommendations and present to holders.
- Oversee the audit process and ensure staff recorded audits in the unclaimed property system, retained appropriate documentation, received all property, and reconciled invoices with audit records.
- Assess penalties and interest, set up payment plans and confirm property was remitted.
- Maintain effective relationships with contract auditors. Collaborate on audits and exchange information as needed to improve holder compliance.
- Stay current on nation-wide trends and approaches to unclaimed property audits that may affect Oregon holders. Research best practices, analyze policies, procedures, and processes for audits of unclaimed property, and recommend improvements. Work with the Unclaimed Property Compliance Coordinator to develop, revise and implement policy and process changes.
- Provide advice and consultation to assist new and existing holders (e.g., businesses, financial institutions, government agencies, landlords, etc.) in understanding Oregon’s unclaimed property program and the compliance process. Explain and interpret statutes and rules, and work with holders at all levels to help them comply with unclaimed property laws.
- Help implement training, education and outreach plans to increase reporting awareness. Participate in education events, speaking engagements, and training seminars in Oregon and at the national level. Provide input and feedback on program educational and marketing materials, brochures, newsletters and media plans to promote Oregon’s unclaimed property program and increase compliance.
- Work Schedule:
This position will have the opportunity for a hybrid (remote and in-office) work location schedule; in-office work will be predominately from Treasury’s Salem office. This position will work from the office one day per month, with additional days in the office, as needed. During the initial training period, employees are expected to be in the office more frequently to support onboarding, learning, and collaboration.

- Salary Range: $66,900-$102,600 annually. Effective February 1, 2026, the compensation plan for this position will be increased to reflect a Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) of 2.5%. The salary listed in this posting does not reflect the COLA.

- Required
Minimum Qualifications:
5 years of experience performing professional level auditing, investigations, compliance, policy/program, or work closely related to the agency mission; OR a Bachelor’s degree in business-related field and 2 years of such experience.
