Amaterra is looking for a Controller to join the team! The Controller will lead the accounting and finance functions for Amaterra’s Winery, Restaurant, Events, and Retail operations. This hands‑on role requires a self‑motivated professional who can independently manage month‑end close, transactional accounting and day‑to‑day financial operations while providing strategic, data‑driven insights to optimize profitability. Key focus areas include labor staffing analysis, event pricing strategies, cost controls and advanced reporting to support the Director of Operations and management team in driving business performance.

Amaterra is a fast‑paced, growing business that will require a dynamic controller. This position supports operations in both Portland and Bend, Oregon locations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Model the Amaterra Values in decision‑making and in interactions with team members and guests.

2. Interpret financial statements and analyze trends, variances, and operating efficiencies.

3. Proactively communicate data‑driven insights and recommendations to management to influence operational decisions and improve profitability.

4. Self‑manage workload with minimal supervision, ensuring timely and accurate completion of tasks.

5. Complete required paperwork and filings with a high degree of accuracy.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee and maintain all financial reporting and financial systems, including periodic Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, Income Statements, Cash Flow, Inventory and, Labor Management reports for each business line and location.
  • Perform hands‑on transactional accounting tasks, including month‑end close, reconciliations, and day‑to‑day oversight of AP/AR, payroll processing, and treasury functions.
  • Prepare necessary tax/audit schedules for annual reporting.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, capital expenditures, and cash flow.
  • Conduct in‑depth financial analysis on labor costs, providing recommendations for optimal staffing levels in restaurant and events operations to balance service quality and profitability.
  • Analyze and recommend pricing strategies for events, menus, and other offerings to maximize margins while remaining competitive.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to provide real‑time insights on key metrics (e.g., labor efficiency, cost trends, sales performance) for the Director of Operations and management team.
  • Forecasting and modeling for future growth and sales.
  • Monitor shrinkage, inventory controls, variances, and fixed assets; investigate and address issues.
  • Oversee accounts payable/receivable, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with operations managers on proformas, pre‑opening estimates, and pricing models.
  • Responsible for liquor tax filings with the proper governmental agencies.
  • Participate and work in special events at the winery and/or restaurant, which may include evening or weekend hours.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; MBA preferred.
  • CPA or CMA designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior accounting/finance role within the hospitality industry (restaurant, hotel, events, or winery preferred), including multi‑line businesses.
  • Proven hands‑on experience with full‑cycle accounting, including month‑end close, financial reporting, inventory control, food/beverage costing, and labor analysis.
  • Wine inventory and sales channel accounting knowledge, COGS analysis, and vintage analysis.
  • High level of competence in Office 365 including Excel, Teams, SharePoint and office programs.
