We’re looking for a Career-Level Piping Designer ready to step into complex industrial and commercial facility projects. In this role, you’ll independently develop piping designs, contribute technical judgment to layout and constructability decisions, and coordinate closely with engineers and cross-discipline teams to deliver high-quality, construction-ready models and drawings.
This position sits in the sweet spot between senior execution and technical leadership—ideal for a designer who wants more ownership, more influence, and exposure to higher-complexity work without fully moving into management.
What You’ll DoDevelop complete piping layouts, routing, and 3D model content using AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or CADWorx with minimal direction
Apply advanced piping design principles including routing optimization, equipment interfaces, and discipline coordination
Lead portions of equipment layout and integrate detailed vendor data into piping models
Produce piping plans, sections, isometrics, and details aligned with Jacobs standards and project requirements
Resolve multi-discipline comments, clashes, and design issues through model-based coordination
Identify scope changes, constructability concerns, and design impacts—and communicate them proactively
Support person-hour estimating, task planning, and sequencing for assigned scope
Coordinate with global workshare teams by issuing clear work packages, reviewing deliverables, and maintaining model consistency
Adhere to Jacobs design procedures, QA/QC expectations, and project workflows
Associate’s degree in Design Technology or a related field (or 2+ years of equivalent practical experience)
5+ years of piping design experience in industrial, commercial, or manufacturing environments
Proficiency in AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, or CADWorx
Solid understanding of piping specifications, materials, equipment interfaces, and layout fundamentals
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, vendor drawings, and engineering documentation
Comfortable working independently with general oversight while managing assigned design tasks
Strong communication and coordination skills within a multi-discipline team
Excellent organizational skills with a strong focus on model accuracy and drawing quality
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or a similar discipline
Experience supporting pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing facilities
Working knowledge of pipe stress considerations and their impact on routing and support design
Experience with QA/QC workflows, model health reviews, and specification-driven design
Advanced capability in Revit or CADWorx (custom families/parts, specs, or data integration)
Prior involvement in global workshare teams, including review of model consistency and deliverable quality
This role requires weekly onsite attendance (2 days per week) at an approved office location. Preferred locations are listed above; alternate offices may be considered based on experience and business need.
