Position: Generation Project Development Leader (Power & Energy)

Overview

WSP is initiating a search for a Generation Project Development Leader. This is a national role that can be based in any WSP USA office location. The role is part of WSP's Power & Energy engineering team and focuses on leadership, team engagement, business growth, and performance. The position encompasses generation projects across all types (thermal and renewable) and involves Owner’s Engineer and other consultative scopes during the concept and development phases.

Responsibilities

Your impact includes leading and coordinating efforts across teams and clients to drive growth and deliver holistic solutions. Specific responsibilities and activities include:

  • Create and deploy plans to drive greater value from key customers, including potential growth in portfolio-level Owner’s Engineers scopes or other repeatable/programmatic work.
  • Ideate, define, and deliver plans to support key tactical activities to enable growth.
  • Collaborate with Business Development teams and the Global Client Program to focus on key customers and high-value opportunities.
  • Listen to customers to understand needs and formulate WSP teams to provide required solutions, drawing from P&E and other WSP resources (including international) to prepare solutions (e.g., interconnection and transmission studies, environmental due diligence, geotechnical support, planning).
  • Hire and develop staff with sufficient experience to operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Guide opportunities toward conversion of Owner’s Engineering projects to detailed engineering where appropriate.
  • Manage the existing team delivering Independent Engineering scopes and coordinate growth for this offering in consultation with the Advisory business line.

Client focus

  • Provide integrated responses to complex client challenges by leveraging WSP’s full range of offerings across end markets.
  • Leverage technical SMEs across the US and globally to foster innovative client delivery.
  • Strategically grow generation engineering market share across the U.S. with project owners, developers, and EPC clients, representing WSP in client and industry engagements.

People & Culture

  • Partner with Generation Leadership, Team Leads, and other WSP leaders to attract top talent in a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment.
  • Emphasize employee training and development to create a positive work experience.
  • Inspire and promote WSP to clients and communities to ensure strong employee engagement and morale.
  • Support programs related to Safety, Sustainability, and Ethics & Compliance.

Operational Excellence

  • Maintain regular contact with other business lines and stakeholders to align on generation project development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to drive the business, assess and propose improvements for project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and monitor KPIs (Sales, Funding, EBITDA, Staffing, DSO, Utilization, Backlog, Inclusion & Diversity, Guiding Principles).
  • Develop local growth forecasts and business development strategies with Team Leads and Leadership.
  • Resolve conflicts and other issues that arise with clients or projects.

Expertise

  • Strong background in energy infrastructure with expertise in generation development and engineering.
  • Leverage WSP’s broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.
  • Partner with broader WSP teams in strategy formation and business development.
  • Foster development of new and emerging innovations to remain a trusted industry thought leader.
  • Advance the strategic direction of the US business for sustained growth in line with the strategic plan.
  • Encourage, support, and promote the professional development of local WSP staff.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 15+ years of experience with a college degree or equivalent in the engineering consulting industry, strong focus in energy and infrastructure value chain.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related discipline.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Demonstrated self-leadership, multi-tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
