Position Description

GBI has always maintained that our employees are our greatest asset, and we are now seeking to add to our team. We are looking for a Project Engineer 1 or 2 to join our team in Hawaii, preferred location Big Island, but open to Oahu and Maui.
Position Summary
The Project Engineer (PE) reports to the General Management or the designated Project Manager and is responsible for administrating the technical aspects of assigned projects. The PE works harmoniously with project crews to ensure that the work is being completed on schedule and on budget. The PE also works closely with subcontractors, vendors, utility companies and local state and federal agencies to ensure the success of the project.

Analyze information gathered at site inspection and review the project plans, specifications, proposals and other documentation. Complete an independent takeoff for all scopes of work to get a better understanding of the project.Tracks and claims quantities daily in order to understands the projects financial position and communicates this back to the team.Coordinates/conducts pre-construction surveys to identify potential risks. Verifies original site conditions and attends pre-construction meetings.Coordinates project schedule and monitor overall construction progress.Develops a good understanding of the bidding process and be able to comprehend the concept of Cost versus Revenue.Reviews subcontract quotations with Senior Estimator. Participates in subcontract negotiations and subcontract preparation. Works directly with subcontractors and monitors subcontractor pay estimates and submittals.Keeps Management advised of progress and checks subcontractor work to ensure conformity with project plans and specifications. Coordinates subcontractor meetings as required.Review vendor/supplier quotations with project Estimator. Timely orders contract materials, remains abreast of delivery schedules and inventories all delivered materials. Works directly with vendors/suppliers. Monitors all required submittals (Certificates, shop drawings, catalog cuts, samples etc.) and ensure that all pay invoices are reviewed, cost coded, approved and submitted for payment. Advise Project Management of delivery schedules and checks materials to ensure they conform with project plans, specifications and invoicing.Develops Shoring Plans or Traffic Control Plans that may be required for the project. Presents these completed Plans to Regional or Project management before submitting for approvals.Develops Work Plans for all major scopes of work to ensure the highest level of Quality and to eliminate rework.Develops Hazard Analysis for all major scopes of work to ensure our crews go home safe every day.Coordinates material deliveries in accordance with progress schedule and adjust as necessary due to changes. Makes daily production materials lists and identifies materials needed for field crews.Assures that details and submittals are received, submitted and processed. Supervises submittal of control data.Maintains project files, such as plans, specifications, budget information, schedules correspondence and design changes.Coordinates Quality Control testing and inspection by various agencies and/or third…
