As an Engineering Technician with Preservation Management, you will get to enjoy working both in an office setting and outdoors. You will provide support for the department engineers by performing calculations, information gathering and record keeping. You will perform asset management functions for pavements, culverts, structures, and other transportation assets.

* Education and Experience:
**** An AS in Engineering Technology (or equivalent experience) and 2-3 years experience in a position equivalent to Assistant Engineering Technician i.e. construction inspection, civil engineering role. A Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field may be substituted for the required experience.
**** Knowledge of:
**** Basic engineering principles, practices, the techniques and equipment involved, physical and mathematical sciences, basic construction practices and safety requirements.
**** Ability to:
**** Interpret construction plans and specifications, use a personal computer, interact with the public and/or contractors, operate basic surveying and test equipment, and perform technical research work on routine engineering problems.
** Selection Process:

It is general policy of the County that new employees should be hired at the lower steps of the applicable range and advance through the range at the normal progression.

**** Duties may include but are not limited to the following:***** ## Performs inspections of pavements, culverts, miscellaneous structures, unstable slopes, and other assets* ## Inspects construction work on pavement preservation projects* ## Records inspection data electronically* ## Performs non-destructive structural testing of pavement using Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) equipment* ## Operates Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) and pavement coring equipment to investigate pavement layer information.
* ## Identifies and marks out areas of pavement needing repair* ## Measures repair areas and calculates total quantities for bid item estimates* ## Identifies and develops preservation treatment projects and bid documents* ## Monitors performance of past preservation treatment projects* ## Works with the GIS Department to produce maps of upcoming project work* ## Communicates with the…
