Mechanical Design Engineer Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to perform design system engineering and produce high-quality construction documents using Revit. The role involves managing project schedules to meet deliverables and designing and planning mechanical system layouts under the direction of a lead engineer. This position requires a thorough understanding of mechanical distribution, HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Energy Modeling.
Responsibilities- Prepare project deliverables with attention to detail.
- Read and understand plans and specifications.
- Develop skills to edit and write specifications.
- Apply knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and mechanical engineering design principles.
- Perform engineering calculations and equipment selection based on calculated load requirements.
- Interact with clients and other project team members.
- Support the project lead in developing opinions of probable construction costs.
- Contribute to site visits and prepare reports.

Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) and/or a Professional license in mechanical engineering preferred or ability to obtain within a year
- Knowledge of mechanical systems and engineering concepts
- Effective communication skills
- Experience with designing mechanical systems (plumbing, HVAC)
- Create and coordinate documents using Revit
- Perform mechanical/HVAC calculations including code research
- Perform plumbing/fire protection calculations including code research
- Write and review specifications
- Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals
- Conduct site visits when needed
- Problem-solving and analysis
- Delegation skills
- Organization and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in AutoCAD/Revit
This position offers a hybrid work environment with a strong preference for staff to work in the office for development and training. The firm values work-life balance, ensuring a work week of no more than 40 hours. As a mid-size firm of roughly 20 people, it offers strong development and mentorship opportunities. The work environment includes an office and parking lot.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $58.00/hr.
