Traveling Construction Materials Technician II

Terracon invites you to join our Traveling Construction Materials Technician team. This role requires 100% travel across the Rocky Mountain region (Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Oregon, Washington). You will work on transportation, commercial buildings, wind farms, and other high‑profile projects.

Perform field testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel). Communicate with project managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and others regarding site, project requirements, and testing results. Transport material samples to the laboratory. Tabulate, prepare, and submit data and observations in written and digital reports. Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, and work areas. Assist with scheduling and dispatch of technicians.

Adhere to strict safety standards.

• Perform testing, observation, and inspection as directed.
• Provide clear documentation of findings and results.
• Perform basic data analysis to verify accuracy before communication.
• Communicate information to the Project Manager and other personnel.
• Assist higher level technicians on complex tasks.
• Maintain assigned equipment and related calibration.
• Drive a vehicle such as a Ford F‑150 or equivalent.
• Follow safety rules and practices; perform pre‑task planning; report safety issues to management.
• Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 1–2 years of relevant experience or equivalent training.
• Experience with laptop computer use and Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.

• ACI certification in one or more of the following areas:
  Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, Concrete Strength Testing Technician.
• Certified in radiation safety and Nuclear Density Gauge operation.
• Successful completion of related internal safety certifications.

• Certifications in one or more of the following areas:
• NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils).
• NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist).
• ICC certification in Reinforced Concrete, Spray‑applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post‑Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding.
• American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Associate Welding Inspector (CAWI).
• American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) Level II certification in Visual Testing, Magnetic Particle Testing, Dye Penetrant Testing, Radiographic Testing, Ultrasonic Testing.
• Other national, regional, state, and local materials related certifications deemed appropriate.
