Position Summary

Responsible for assigned business unit(s) safety programs to include assisting with the development, implementation, monitoring and management of safety programs, policies and procedures. Ensures the organization complies with all current safety regulations. Identifies unsafe conditions that need improvement and recommends adjustments to safeguard employee health. May take immediate corrective actions such as shutting down work in progress in the event of imminent danger.

Position receives general direction and oversight from the Director of Safety and/or Safety Manager as appropriate. This position maintains a strong dotted line reporting relationship to key operational managers.

Essential Functions and Major Responsibilities
  • Identifies and anticipates safety & health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational and occupational conditions; renders opinions on new equipment and procedures; investigates violations; recommends preventative programs.
  • Guides and promotes safe work performance by developing safety systems, policies and procedures; develops safety campaigns, communications and recognitions.
  • Enforces safety policies by conducting inspections; reporting statistics; counseling managers and employees.
  • Leads and participates in a wide variety of employee activities regarding accident prevention, accident investigations, safety committee meetings, job hazard analysis and the like to facilitate greater awareness and understanding of how to eliminate safety hazards in the work environment.
  • Promotes a safe environment by coordinating and cooperating with local, state and regional safety groups and agencies.
  • Identifies patterns of unsafe behaviors in the work environment or where safety leadership gaps may exist. Promptly advises operational leaders of identified concerns.
  • Supports company‑wide objectives. Rewrites and updates procedures and process memorandums relating to fire protection and safety hazards.
  • May supervise the Marine Chemist and Shipyard Competent Person Program.
  • Provides critical safety related trainings to include OSHA 10, CPR, PIT and company safety policies.
  • Represents the Safety Department and production turnover meetings to address safety concerns of operational leaders.
  • Attends pre‑arrival and/or production fabrication meetings for projects and provides safety concerns, potential hazards and identifies accident mitigation measures to operational personnel and project supervisors.
  • Assists in determination of corrective actions to safety deficiencies and follows up to confirm effectiveness.
  • Completes and maintains a variety of safety related reports, documents and other records as directed.
  • Engages in continuous professional development to remain current on professional safety trends, regulations etc.
  • Assists Safety Director with special projects as requested.
Secondary Functions
  • Provides depth to safety functions throughout the company including locations such as Everett, Tacoma, Port Angeles, Ketchikan and Portland.
  • Provided depth to cover other safety needs in the Seattle Facility.
  • Provides support to Director in furthering specific company wide initiatives.
