Overview

TRC is seeking an Outreach Specialist - Energy Efficiency to support the delivery of a large commercial and multi-family energy efficiency program in the Clackamas, Hood River, and Wasco counties of Oregon, as well as Southwest Washington. Through the program, we deliver technical assistance and cash incentives to customers in commercial facilities and buildings to help make electric and natural gas energy efficiency upgrades possible.

The ideal candidate will be assertive, personable, and a self-starter, with the capacity to build and maintain lasting relationships with manufacturers, distributors, and installers of energy systems in their region. Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable but not required.

This position will work in a small team of trade ally outreach staff focused on market adoption of energy efficient technologies, ensuring their correct use, and increasing participation in client-sponsored incentive programs. A key focus of this role is empowering minority- and women-owned businesses, as well as emerging firms with limited experience in efficiency programs. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of electric and natural gas energy systems (such as HVAC, boilers, and food service equipment) and a passion for energy resiliency, while also working to bridge the gap between under resourced customers and utility programs.

Throughout the course of the day-to-day, this role may need to communicate the benefits in terms that resonate with that contractor or their customer base and provide contractors with the tools and training necessary to encourage stakeholders to move forward. Previous outreach experience with energy efficiency programs, building performance principles and best practices, and/or construction management is preferred, but not required.

This position will be working closely with the Trade Ally Manager, assisting in the management of some important processes and helping to oversee a very important sub-program working with contractors who represent our focus communities.

The position requires a valid US driver's license and use of a personal vehicle for travel to connect with key partners throughout Clackamas, Hood River, and Wasco counties of Oregon, as well as Southwest Washington. Mileage for work-related travel will be reimbursed.

This position can be based in Vancouver or Portland areas.

TRC is committed to promoting diversity and equity within the clean energy sector. Diverse backgrounds and perspectives are essential to the utility of the future, and we are working to empower candidates of the global majority, disabled, women, and LGBTQIA2+ persons in the field of energy project management.

Responsibilities
  • Build relationships with key partners in their region, including installation contractors and trade associations
  • Effectively communicate multifamily and commercial gas and electric energy efficiency focused program offerings and help contractors navigate the project application process
  • Provide support via answering ad hoc questions and provide regularly scheduled touch points and trainings as needed.
  • Provide day-to-day outreach to contractors and customers, including regional travel approximately 30% of the time
  • Will need to attend in-person events, conferences, and quarterly team meetings.
  • Assisting in the creation and delivery of educational tools to help Trade Allies and customers adhere to energy efficiency program requirements
  • Recruiting contractors and providing engagement plans, mentoring, and training to contractors
  • Assist in planning and hosting contractor meetings with multiple sessions on an annual basis to deliver efficiency program updates
  • Draft briefings and professional correspondence for review/circulation by management.
  • Actively engaging applicable trade groups and associations in events and program promotions
  • Work cross-functionally with various stakeholders to provide a seamless journey through the energy…
