Group Work Co-Pilots work with students in the Learning Commons or in classrooms to facilitate the group project process by encouraging innovation, ensuring effective and equitable group work, and creating a positive and enjoyable group work experience. Group Work Co-Pilots help groups with teamwork, understanding and rotating roles, managing conflicts, finding strengths and understanding group theory. Candidates must have taken or plan to take COMM 332 in the Fall.
The Learning Commons is a program of the Shepard Academic Resource Center ( SARC ).
- Support active student learning and participation in group work projects including development of group work strategies, group study skills, and group presentation of work.
- Actively participate in all required training sessions for community building purposes within the SARC.
- If available, support the Learning Commons Associate Director of Tutoring Services with projects related to organizational development, peer educator community building, promoting the Learning Commons, and social media communications as such projects come up.
- Maintain a professional, welcoming environment in the Learning Commons and online spaces.
- Value and maintain confidentiality of students following FERPA guidelines.
- Maintain accurate record of time worked and active tutoring time.
- Follow Learning Commons Code of Ethics.
- Maintain a clean and organized space in the Group Work Lab and Learning Commons.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
- Successful completion of a group communication class (e.g., COM 332 Collaborative Leadership in Group)
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
- Availability to work a minimum of 2-4 hours per week.
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule based on appointment requests.
- At least a second-year class standing.
- Demonstrated excellence in academic peer assistance within or outside of the classroom or experience teaching or one-on-one tutoring.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Availability to work up to 3 hours per week.
