About the School

Portland Public Schools is seeking a dynamic and equity-centered school leader to serve as Principal of Ockley Green Middle School. The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience leading an increasingly diverse school community and a strong commitment to collaboration, data-informed decision making, family and community engagement, innovation, and teamwork. This leader will approach their work through a racial equity lens and show a deep understanding of intersectional identities, as well as the historical inequities these students and communities have experienced.

The Principal of Ockley Green Middle School will continue to cultivate a learning environment that promotes academic excellence, belonging, and personal growth for every student and staff member. This position is part of the Office of School Performance and reports to the assigned Senior Director of Schools.

Ockley Green Middle School is a comprehensive middle school serving 456 students and offers a Spanish Dual Immersion program. Fourteen languages are spoken across our school community.

Basic Function

Under administrative direction, provide instructional leadership for an Elementary, Middle, PK-8 or High school campus under administrative direction. Establish an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement while narrowing the disparities between the highest and lowest performing students; supervise and support professional educators in strengthening their instructional practices; create a community of continuous learning for all staff and students;

foster a culture of high expectation, providing every student with equitable access to high quality and culturally relevant instruction; support and implement the District’s Racial Equity Policy; build strong partnerships with families and community; create a safe, welcoming environment that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and communities served; manage operational, technical, and school activities and staff to promote student growth.
