Overview

Join our Team at Portland Community College. PCC is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon and serves approximately 80,000 students. The college has four campuses, five workforce training and education centers, and 200 community locations in the Portland metro area. Program and Role

PCC is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Journalism. The Department will review applications for new part-time faculty as needs arise during the Academic Year. This is NOT a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool. Applications may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full-term class assignments.

Instructor Qualifications

• Master’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Speech Communication, Mass Communication, or Communications
OR

• Master’s degree in a related area (e.g. History, Economics, Political Science, Sociology) with thirty (30) graduate quarter hours in the subject area
OR
Instructors without one of the listed degrees may be hired on the basis of professional competence:

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Communications, or Journalism

• Two (2) or more years of professional experience in mass media

Notes Regarding Academic Credentials
  • Official transcripts are required to be submitted within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated Instructor Qualifications.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or an equivalent foreign institution. Transcripts from other countries will be evaluated by agencies in good standing with the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Part-time Faculty Compensation At PCC
