Position Announcement
Confidential Advocacy is part of the Administrative Services department within the Center for Student Health and Counseling (SHAC). This program addresses sexual and gender based violence at Portland State University by providing trauma informed support for students. Students are supported with connections, resources, information, and campus‑coordinated response efforts at all institutional levels.
Responsibilities- Provide confidential and legally privileged advocacy services (including safety planning, academic and housing accommodations, financial aid, accompaniment during reporting processes, emotional support, and other referrals) directly to students who have experienced gender‑based violence.
- Collaborate with campus and community partners to formulate strategies that serve survivors and the community.
- Work closely with the Confidential Advocacy Coordinator to support campus change by providing direct advocacy services and training for students, faculty, and staff.
- Educate the campus community about survivor‑centered responses to disclosures of violence.
- 2 years’ experience working directly with survivors of interpersonal/gender‑based violence, providing trauma informed care and working with underserved and marginalized communities or in a counseling related field.
- Possess or be willing to obtain within the first three months the required state‑level certifications for campus advocacy.
- Demonstrated understanding of current best practices in responding to interpersonal trauma.
- Must successfully pass a background check.
- Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience OR Master’s degree and 1 year related experience.

- Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.
- Seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.
- Adhere to all of PSU’s policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.
Monday‑Friday between 8:00‑5:00.
Salary and BenefitsThe starting annual salary is $58,596 and may be negotiated above this rate depending on experience. Benefits include 95% premium paid healthcare, a generous retirement and vacation package, and reduced tuition rates for employees, spouses, or dependents at any Oregon University System school.
