Organizational Background:

Wonderfolk is a social impact organization providing mentorship and leadership development opportunities to lower-income and BIPOC highschoolers through community advocacy and international travel. We are at an inflection point where we have finalized a 5-year strategic plan that will see us increasing the number of cohorts we serve, and developing new mentorship programming that spans multiple years. This will include career exploration, in-depth advocacy projects and enhanced community partnerships.

Our Naturehood believes clean air, water, and green spaces are essential for all communities. We focus on trail maintenance, wildlife exploration in Costa Rica and local advocacy, these projects develop a strong relationship with the natural world.

Unity Through Arts provides the opportunity to find individual power through an expression of collective voice. Through public art projects led by creative community members, our fellows can create and install murals, learn how to produce and publish documentary films and explore healing through art.

Global Leadership opens international opportunities for service-learning trips abroad that allow our youth to put their social advocacy leadership into action, to immerse oneself in Costa Rican culture through homestays with local families while working on projects designed in collaboration with our community partners.

Career Development through a second year of mentorship, providing students opportunities to develop workforce skills and explore diverse careers through workshops, professional panels and paid summer job shadowing opportunities.
