Position Summary
The School of Architecture at Portland State University seeks a full‑time Assistant Professor to teach courses in Architectural Theory and History. Candidates will be expected to bring cultural, social, and urban perspectives to lectures, seminars, and design studios, while embracing the culture of philosophical and critical inquiry at the heart of our pedagogy.
Primary ActivityInstructional:
Design studio teaching, lecture courses in theory and history, seminars and studio design instruction.
- Doctorate or equivalent in architecture; ABD acceptable by the time of third year review.
- At least three years of full‑time teaching experience in architectural design studio and design studio teaching.
- Articulation of a continuing research and/or creative agenda that expands the scholarly field of architecture.
- Demonstrated how the candidate’s work will contribute to the enrichment of our school pedagogy.

Total Compensation & Benefits StatementThe starting annual salary is $76,239, but may be negotiated above this rate.
