The Computer Lab and Tutoring Coordinator (Instructional Support Technician IV in the PCC Classification system) collaborates with the ABE/GED Instructors to evaluate instructional needs, assign appropriate subject areas using education software (e.g., Aztec Learning System), work with students individually and in groups, monitor progress, and assign new subject areas as needed. Continuation of this position is dependent on annual grant funding renewal.

Another important component is recruiting, training, supervising, and mentoring inmate peer-tutors assigned to ABE/GED students. There is ongoing collaboration with tutors and the ABE/GED instructor regarding lesson planning, educational strategies, resources, and student readiness to test (CASAS and GED).

The position is responsible for the general cleanliness and security of the lab in cooperation with DOC security and security staff, providing a safe environment and reporting issues.

• Computer Lab: schedule and coordinate student activities; assist students with computer hardware and software (Aztec, keyboarding, MS Office Suite).
• Administer education software (Aztec, CIS, Rosetta Stone) and maintain student attendance and progress records.
• Coordinate maintenance of lab computers and software; regularly update skills to stay current; cultivate student persistence; record student progress reports.

• Tutor Program: recruit, interview, train and manage adult in custody (AIC) tutors; supervise scheduling of approximately 75 students and 12 tutors; review and update curriculum used by tutors; conduct regular tutor meetings; coordinate with instructors and program coordinators to meet objectives; handle disciplinary issues.

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position. Prior corrections experience or other experience demonstrating healthy boundaries and security practices is desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed.
• Experience coordinating a team and holding members accountable to objectives.
• Experience with various computer software programs.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of post-secondary education in computer systems and applications (relevant experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis).
• Three years of experience with computer systems and applications.
• Proven written and oral communication skills to assist students and to lead others; ability to evaluate performance.
• Ability to be self-directed and to work well with a team.
