Overview

Join our Team at Portland Community College. Portland Community College is the largest post-secondary institution in Oregon and 19th largest in the nation, serving approximately 80,000 full- and part-time students. PCC has four comprehensive campuses, five workforce training and education centers, and 200 community locations in the Portland metropolitan area. Program and Who We Are Looking For

PCC is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Biology. Biology courses are taught at all four main PCC campuses. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area, with anticipated needs to teach Anatomy & Physiology and Microbiology. This is NOT an announcement of a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool.

Instructor Qualifications

• Master s degree in Biology

• OR Master s degree in a related area AND 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in Biology

Degrees in the following areas should be regarded as Master s degrees in the subject area:
Anatomy, Animal Behavior, Animal Sciences, Botany, Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine (DC), Doctor of Dental Science (DDS or DMD), Doctor of Osteopathy (DO), Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM), Ecology, Education/Science Education (assuming 30 graduate credits in any of the other subjects), Entomology, Environmental Science and Resources (ESR), Evolution/Evolutionary Biology, Fisheries, Forestry, Genetics, Marine Biology, Medical Doctor (MD), Microbiology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Naturopathic Doctor (ND), Physiology, Plant Sciences, Wildlife Biology, Zoology.

This list may not be inclusive; the Division Dean will determine applicability of a degree outside this list, and the department chair can determine applicability to a specific biology course.

Provisional Approval
A part-time instructor without a Masters or Doctorate may be approved if they have 30 quarter hours of graduate credit in the subject area and are actively pursuing the degree, with anticipated degree completion within six months of hire (letter from the advisor required and kept on file).

  • Official transcripts are required within 2 weeks of offer date for degrees required in the stated Instructor Qualifications.
  • Instructors shall have earned required academic credentials at a regionally accredited US institution or comparable foreign institution; transcripts from other countries will be evaluated by agencies in good standing with NACES to establish fulfillment of this standard.
