Position SummaryThe School of Architecture at PSU has a rich, materially based curriculum that challenges students to address the poetics of material, urban issues, and cultural meaning, community engagement and social needs through architecture and design. With an established reputation for promoting a materially diverse, urban‑oriented, socially engaged architectural education—including a pre‑professional undergraduate degree in Architecture, a professional accredited Master of Architecture, the Center for Public Interest Design, and strong ties to local design practice—the School offers a rigorous educational experience in the ideal setting of downtown Portland.
Portland State University wishes to hire a full‑time Assistant Professor in Architecture to teach courses in Sustainable Design and Technology. Candidates will be expected to provide expertise in integrating the relationship between sustainable design and technology and natural and cultural ecologies through creative teaching strategies in design studios, while bringing critical perspectives and innovative practices to lectures and seminars.

Minimum QualificationsAt minimum candidates must have a master’s degree in architecture and professional experience.
Candidates should demonstrate tangible instructional experience in teaching situations, including architectural design studio, with the equivalent of at least 3 years of full‑time teaching experience.
Preferred QualificationsPreference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated expertise and research activities in building performance systems and other sustainability‑focused technologies and their applications to real‑world problems.
