Job SummaryThe University of Portland Public Health and Wellness Program invites applications for Adjunct Instructors to teach public health courses, including introduction to public health, epidemiology, leadership and health, environmental health, health coaching, and research methods. This position requires course instruction with three in-person class contact hours per week per section, maintaining regular availability to meet with students, and participation in department orientation and trainings.
The Public Health and Wellness Program is dedicated to creating the conditions for students to realize their best selves and serve the public with compassion and skill. Pedagogically, the program focuses on students’ vitality and capacity for creativity as much as on the delivery of information. Successful candidates will possess a balance between content expertise and effective teaching practices. The program is currently transitioning from the School of Nursing & Health Innovations to the College of Arts and Sciences.
Adjunct Instructors are hired on a per semester basis and teach assigned courses, not to exceed six credit hours (or equivalent) per semester.
Core Duties- Teach assigned public health and wellness courses using evidence-based instruction practices.
- Provide a supportive learning environment and facilitate effective student learning.
- Adhere to course curricula, methods, practices, and lesson plans as developed by the Public Health and Wellness Program and the College of Arts & Sciences.
- Adhere to University and College policies and processes related to class instruction, including but not limited to syllabus requirements.
- Conduct regular student assessments and provide timely graded feedback including homework, quizzes, and exams.
- Access the online learning system and other network resources to assign homework, communicate with students, complete grading and other assessment tasks.
- Conduct student meetings by holding regular office hours outside of regularly scheduled class time.
