Cook – First Gear Academy

We’re looking for a dedicated Cook to prepare healthy and tasty meals and snacks for children in our centers. You will follow menus and recipes developed by our in‑house nutritionist to ensure the children receive the fuel they need to learn and grow.

• Maintain kitchen and related equipment safely and hygienically
• Order food and supplies
• Dispense and store medication, as requested
• Complete timely and accurate documentation according to Kinder Care and other licensing or regulation requirements
• Help with and take on responsibility in other daily center duties, as needed
• Partner with center staff and leadership to achieve goals around enrollment, accreditation, and engagement

• A love for children and a strong desire to make a difference every day
• Familiarity with food safety, storage, and the needs of children with food allergies, and implementing cross‑contamination avoidance methods
• Ability to follow nutritious menus and prepare enough food for the center population
• Basic math skills for measuring and calculating serving portions
• Possession of a Food Handler’s License or willingness to obtain one
• At least one year of institutional cooking experience (food‑ordering experience highly desirable)
• Two or more years working with children, highly desirable
• Physical ability to use the computer with basic proficiency and lift up to 40 pounds; may be required for some classroom or kitchen duties
• Read, write, understand, and speak English to communicate with children and parents
