Overview
Assistant Professor position in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR. The department includes more than 150 faculty and adjunct faculty and operates at OHSU's Level 1 Trauma Center, pediatric ED, three community EDs, ED Observation Units, Immediate Care Virtual Visits, and the Oregon Poison Center. OHSU offers EM specialty training with several fellowships.
The appointee will provide services aligned with teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service under the supervision of the Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine.
- Act as an attending physician in the Emergency Department (including the ED observation unit and Pediatric Emergency Services) as assigned by the Chair.
- Participate in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff and nurses.
- Engage in Emergency Department quality assurance activities and provide on-line medical consultation.
- Evaluate, diagnose, perform history and physical examinations, and treat patients; stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and assess if additional care is necessary.
- Fulfill administrative and other duties as needed, including opportunities to participate in departmental management and serve on institutional committees.
Education: MD or equivalent;
Emergency Medicine Residency Certificate
Experience: Knowledge, training and experience in clinical and academic Emergency Medicine

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to meet standards of performance delineated by law
- Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
- Proficiency with computing hardware and software, including EMRs, word processing and spreadsheet software
- Regular and consistent attendance at work
Registrations, Certifications and/or Licenses:
- ABEM or ABOEM Board certified or board eligible
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required if not yet board certified (not required once board certification is obtained)
- Current Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Certification required to have been completed at least once, even when board-certified
- Current Oregon MD license (or equivalent) with credentialing to practice in an acute care/emergency setting;
Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration to prescribe medications prior to start date
