The Division of Hematology & Medical Oncology at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) is seeking a highly-qualified translational or clinical researcher in Breast Oncology for the Knight Cancer Institute. OHSU and the Knight Cancer Institute are built from a foundation of innovation, inclusion, and collaboration. This Breast Oncologist will apply a strong and proven commitment to excellence in research, education, and the delivery of care.
The successful candidate will ensure the university's mission and goals of research, patient care, teaching, and outreach, and public service are met. Keys for the successful candidate shall be a Clinical or translational physician investigator, with the intellectual vision to develop and expand breast cancer research at the Knight Cancer Institute.
This position is eligible for endowment from the Leonard Schnitzer Endowment, provided by the Schnitzer family. This endowment will provide the selected, qualified candidate access to funds and will be tasked with marrying the Knight Cancer Institute's mission for innovation and vision to expand OHSU's breast cancer footprint, relevance in the market, and impact to patients. The successful applicant will be nominated for this endowment, subject to OHSU policies and approval by the Dean of the School of Medicine and the OHSU Provost.
The current team in Breast Oncology is comprised of three physicians who collaborate across disciplines to advance breast cancer research.
General:
- Oversee clinical and research expansion within the service line
- Work with leadership to identify and build collaborations across the Knight, aligning strengths in research with a vision to elevate the breast cancer service line
- Direct the development of a comprehensive breast cancer program at the Knight Cancer Institute
- Establish an innovative research portfolio
- Coordinate with institutional leaders to advance clinical growth
- Build collaborations that advance the treatment of breast cancer
- Dedicate 50% of time to building clinical research
Promote Discovery (Clinical, Translational, and Basic Research):
- Model excellence in research and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Manage resources to coordinate programs with the Leonard Schnitzer Endowment and establish scholarly activities
- Link science with health care in complex disease care and translational outcomes
- Lead a research program through collaboration locally, regionally, and nationally
- Oversee clinical and research expansion within the service line
- Dedicate 50% of time to building clinical research
- Direct the development of a comprehensive breast cancer program at the Knight Cancer Institute
- Establish an innovative research portfolio
- Coordinate with institutional leaders to advance clinical growth
- Build collaborations that advance the treatment of breast cancer
The duties of this position support the missions, goals, and objectives of OHSU and the School of Medicine and include: participate in medical student and house staff education; care of patients with breast cancer; establish and maintain a program of scholarly activity; conduct basic research; participate in administrative committees and councils; engage in public service with non-university groups as approved by leadership.
It is anticipated the position will be composed of Clinical, teaching/research/academic, and inpatient service components.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent
- Must qualify for the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor at OHSU
- MD board certification in medical oncology and eligibility to obtain a license to practice medicine in Oregon
