Overview
We are looking for a new part-time Front Desk Agent for evening and weekend shifts at The Hotel Zags. The Hotel Zags is a boutique, independent property located in the Fountain District of Portland, offering a hospitality experience enlivened by natural beauty and the local culture.
The Front Desk Agent responds in a professional and courteous manner to arriving, departing, and in-house guests by providing accurate information and services. The role handles telephone and in-person inquiries regarding reservations, hotel information, and guest concerns.
Responsibilities- Greet guests and complete established check-in procedures for arriving guests using both manual and computerized methods to ensure guest satisfaction and timely room assignment.
- Facilitate guest checkout by following established procedures to close guest accounts and prepare rooms for the next guest.
- Handle cash transactions accurately, post monies and receipts, and maintain proper hotel records to present precise charges at checkout.
- Answer inquiries and accept reservations in person or by telephone, clearly communicating rates and information and using suggestive selling techniques to maximize occupancy and revenue.
- Maintain good customer relations by staying informed about in-house and local events to provide timely and knowledgeable responses.
- Operate PBX equipment, handle incoming and outgoing calls, schedule wake-up calls, and page guests as needed to deliver timely service.
- Maintain responsibility for personal cash bank according to hotel policy.
- Maintain a friendly, cheerful, and courteous demeanor at all times.
Education/Formal Training
High School diploma or equivalent
Experience
None required
Knowledge/Skills
- High school level mathematical aptitude, knowledge of standard cash handling procedures, and familiarity with computerized cash register systems.
- Experience dealing with the public and general customer service skills.
- Fluent in oral and written English.
- Ability to use tact and remain composed in a variety of customer service situations, including stressful scenarios.
- Highly organized with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks.

- Ability to read written communications and use a computer screen.
- Ability to operate computer, calculator, and telephone keyboards for cash handling and paperwork processing.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal/written instructions, multitask, and communicate effectively.
- 90% of shift standing; bending and kneeling as needed when filing.
- Mobility to reach all areas of the hotel to assist guests.
- Occasional standing and occasional lifting of files and office items up to 25 lbs.
Prolonged standing at an indoor, climate-controlled work station with fluorescent lighting. Work inside 95% of the time.
