Recruitment Consultant – Building Envelope and Structural Engineering at LVI Associates
Location: Portland, Oregon
Employment Type: Full-Time

OverviewMy client is seeking a Building Envelope Consultant with a strong construction background and hands‑on experience in the built environment. This role is ideal for someone who has worked in construction, construction management, or the trades and is interested in transitioning into envelope consulting. Licensing is not required. What matters most is technical aptitude, real‑world implementation experience, and the ability to think critically about how buildings perform.
WhatWe're Looking For
We are not focused on traditional credentials as much as attitude, curiosity, and construction-based technical understanding
. The right candidate will be comfortable engaging with owners, managing projects independently, and learning new technical concepts on the job.
- Perform building envelope investigations on existing buildings
- Diagnose water intrusion issues, envelope failures, and fireproofing concerns
- Participate in envelope consulting for renovations, additions, and existing structures
- Conduct site visits and field observations with a construction-oriented mindset
- Communicate findings clearly to owners, clients, and project stakeholders
- Manage smaller projects independently from start to finish
- Assist in developing technical recommendations and repair strategies
- Collaborate with internal teams and clients to solve complex building performance issues
- Support non-residential projects across commercial, institutional, and mixed-use properties
- Strong construction background with real, hands‑on implementation experience
- Exposure to building envelope systems such as façades, windows, masonry, waterproofing, or concrete
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn envelope consulting principles
- Ability to think critically and solve non-standard, "weird" building problems
- Comfortable working directly with clients and owners
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to project manage independently
- Previous envelope consulting experience
- Inspection or quality control experience
- Experience investigating water-driven building issues
- Knowledge of renovations and additions to existing buildings
- A construction-first mindset
- Curiosity about why buildings fail and how to fix them
- Practical experience over purely academic credentials
- Desire to move from contracting or trades into consulting
- Comfort working in the field and engaging with contractors
- Opportunity to transition from construction into consulting
- Exposure to a wide variety of unique, non-residential projects
- Hands‑on, problem-solving-focused work
- Strong emphasis on learning, growth, and technical development
- Direct client interaction and project ownership
