Priority Listing Outdoor Kindergarten Assistant

Shining Star Waldorf School is seeking an experienced Kindergarten Assistant for our outdoor forest kindergarten, called Osoberry, located at Whitaker Ponds in NE Portland. The running hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30am - 12:30pm, with paid working hours from 8:00am - 1:00pm. The children age from 3.5 to 6 years old and the program has a maximum enrollment of 14 children.

Role starts as soon as possible

• Assist the Lead teacher with daily activities, including painting, drawing, cooking, and crafts, as well as prepare for yearly festivals.
• Help children with bathroom use and hand washing and dressing for the weather.
• Arrive 30 minutes early for set up and stay 30 minutes late for clean up. 8:00am - 1:00pm.
• Arrive grounded and joyful.
• Must have an interest in being with young children.
• Sing alongside the side lead teacher through transitions and circle time.

• A love of children and the ability to build relationships with children ages 3.5 - 6.
• A calm and overall happy demeanor.
• Ability to stand and sit for an hour or more, as well as joyfully work outside in various weather conditions.
• Enthusiasm for Waldorf education with a willingness to deepen their knowledge.

• Strong preference given to applicants who are Waldorf-trained or experienced.
• Experience with children outdoors.
• Early Childhood work experience.

Starting hourly wage for this position is $20-$21/hour depending on experience, with a dollar hour raise annually. The position is 20 hours per week. Salary covered during holidays and school breaks. Kindergarten age children would be able to come to Osoberry with 100% tuition remittance, with the potential to qualify for partial remittance of main school tuition if employment was on a long term basis.
