The Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting general ledger accounting, period-end closing, and financial reporting, and overseeing the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for Relay Resources and its subsidiaries. This role supports the Assistant Controller and provides technical accounting guidance, team support, and process improvement to strengthen the Accounting function. Ideal candidates will have experience in affordable housing and/or property management and a working knowledge of Net Suite and Yardi.
Responsibilities- Accounting Oversight & Close Process – 25%
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliations.
- Maintain schedules for key accounts, including prepaids and accruals.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial data entry and compliance with GAAP.
- Accounts Payable & Receivable Management – 20%
- Supervise day-to-day A/P and A/R operations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide guidance to staff handling vendor payments, invoicing, collections, and customer billing.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and support process improvement initiatives.
- Fixed Assets and Leases – 15%
- Manage capitalization, depreciation, and disposals in accordance with company policy.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset subledger.
- Ensure that lease accounting schedules adhere to ASC 842 standards
- Financial Reporting & Analysis – 10%
- Support the preparation of monthly internal financial reports and dashboards.
- Assist in budget variance analysis and reporting to department leads.
- Contribute to the development of financial KPIs and process metrics.
- Assist in preparing consolidated financial statements.
- Work with the assistant controller on ad-hoc reporting, projects, and analysis
- Affordable Housing & Property Management Accounting – 10%
- Manage property-specific accounting and reporting requirements.
- Ensure accurate handling of HUD, Section 8, LIHTC, and regulatory reporting obligations.
- Leverage Yardi system for property management accounting and reporting.
- Audit & Compliance Support – 10%
- Support annual financial audit and Form 990 preparation
- Prepare PBC audit schedules and respond to auditor inquiries.
- Help ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and audit requirements.
- Process Improvement & Team Support – 10%
- Partner with Assistant Controller to enhance accounting procedures, workflows, and documentation.
- Support Net Suite ERP system optimization and contribute to internal training efforts and transitions.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and mentoring to accounting team members and foster cross-functional collaboration.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 6+ years of relevant accounting experience, including nonprofit and/or affordable housing/property management sectors.
- Hands-on experience with monthly close processes and internal reporting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems; experience with Net Suite.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and formulas.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work both independently and collaboratively.
- CPA certification or progress toward CPA.
