ResponsibilitiesThe Grants Accountant role is a blended position with Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable responsibilities. The Grant’s Accountant is responsible for a portfolio of invoices and a category of expense payments. The work includes maintaining detailed records and providing information for external and internal stakeholders.
- Prepare invoices and reports as directed by funder requirements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards
- Reconcile balances for accounts receivable, aging and collection reports
- Respond to funder requests for supporting documents
- Maintain communication with program managers regarding outstanding receivables
- Monitor accounts receivables variances in collaboration with budget analysts and program management
- Prepare payments for a certain category of expenses
- Other tasks within the accounting team as needed
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Business or similar combination of education and experience
- Two years’ experience in accounting, preferably in a nonprofit organization
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) accounting
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Must be proficient in the English language
- Oral and written communication skills commensurate with the needs of the position
- Experience/proficient in Management Information Package (MIP), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and a variety of software packages
- Respectful cross-context service; demonstrated skill in understanding variation in community norms
- Successful experience in accounting, with integrated computerized accounting systems
- Experience and knowledge of State and Federal regulations and related laws
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Accounts Receivables and Accounts Payables
- Knowledge of automated accounting systems and capability to assemble, review, and maintain accounting, budget, or financial transactions
- Strong computer skills including proficiency in the use of financial software (MIP preferred), Excel and related software applications
- Strong communication skills in a multilingual, multibackground organization
- Strong ability to work with multi-background staff in a team setting
- Ability to use initiative and judgment with competing tasks and responsibilities
- Ability to function in a positive manner in a demanding work environment, to demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, to respond to priorities and schedules that change frequently, and to meet commitments
