Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) is a Black-led arts incubator based in Portland, Maine, dedicated to advancing Black and Brown thought leadership, vision, and creative practice across the African diaspora. In six years, IAA has grown into an internationally recognized organization, supporting 66 artists in residence from 21 countries through flagship programs including the Mentorship Residency and David

. IAA has partnered with more than 30 regional, national, and international cultural organizations and produced 191 free public programs
, fostering community dialogue around art, social justice, and cultural history.

As the only Black-led arts incubator in northern New England
, IAA serves as a critical hub connecting global and local Black and Brown artists while building sustainable infrastructure for creative work, collaboration, and social change.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Director of Development
, located in the Portland, Maine metropolitan area. The Director of Development will lead and implement IAA’s fundraising strategy, cultivating and stewarding relationships with individual donors, foundations, and institutional partners. This role is responsible for grant development and reporting, donor cultivation systems, and fundraising initiatives aligned with IAA’s mission and long-term sustainability.

Working closely with the Executive Director and organizational leadership, the Director of Development will drive revenue growth to sustain and expand IAA’s artist residencies, public programs, and national and international partnerships.

Qualifications
  • Project management and organizational skills, including planning fundraising events
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to engage with donors, partners, and team members
  • Knowledge of nonprofit development practices and government/private fundraising processes
  • Passion for social justice, arts, and community engagement
  • Ability to work collaboratively and thrive in a mission-driven environment
  • Familiarity with CRM systems for tracking donor contributions is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field is preferred
