The Production Manager at Welch Bailey Sign is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sign production, from scheduling and staffing to quality control, safety, and cross-department coordination. This role owns the production floor and ensures projects are delivered on time, and to quality standards, while continuously improving processes in a fast-paced, custom manufacturing environment.

This position works closely with Sales, Project Management, Design, and Installation to ensure smooth handoffs, realistic timelines, and exceptional finished products for both trade partners and direct customers.

The Production Manager plays a critical role in keeping our projects moving, our team supported, and our customers happy. Success here means fewer surprises, smoother installs, stronger collaboration, and a shop that runs efficiently without sacrificing quality.

Leading the Production Team
  • Supervise and support all production staff
  • Set clear expectations and provide hands-on leadership
  • Help train, mentor, and develop team members
  • Play a key role in hiring, onboarding, and performance conversations
  • Promote a positive, respectful, and safety-first shop environment
Owning the Production Schedule
  • Manage and maintain the production schedule in Wrike
  • Coordinate priorities across multiple jobs, materials, and deadlines
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Installers to align production with field schedules
  • Adjust plans as needed when projects shift, materials change, or issues arise
Quality & Craftsmanship
  • Establish clear quality standards for each stage of production
  • Implement practical quality checks to catch issues early
  • Reduce rework by ensuring accurate information is communicated and expectations are understood
  • Ensure finished signs meet both design intent and install requirements
Value Engineering & Problem Solving
  • Review jobs for efficient fabrication and smart material use
  • Suggest alternative methods or materials when appropriate
  • Collaborate with Sales, Design, and PMs to solve build challenges
  • Help protect margins while maintaining quality and durability
Safety, Compliance & Shop Oversight
  • Maintain MSDS documentation and safety compliance
  • Ensure safe work practices are followed throughout the shop
  • Support safety training and incident reporting
  • Help keep equipment, tools, and work spaces organized and maintained
  • Act as the production liaison for Sales, Design, Project Management, and Installation
  • Participate in scheduling and operations meetings
  • Communicate clearly when issues arise and help solve them
Process Improvement
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow and efficiency
  • Help develop and maintain production-related SOPs
  • Use Wrike and shop feedback to continuously improve processes
  • Support growth and operational changes as the company evolves
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience managing and supervising teams in a custom manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of fabrication workflows and shop operations
  • Comfortable balancing schedules, people, and priorities
  • Clear communicator who works well across departments
  • Safety-minded and quality-focused
  • Familiarity with production management tools (Wrike or similar)
