Location:
Corporate Office in South Portland, ME. This is a hybrid role and not a remote position.
The Senior Manager of Credit and Collections manages and provides strategic oversight of the organization’s commercial and residential credit operations. This role is accountable for establishing and executing credit and collections strategies that support revenue growth, protect company assets, optimize cash flow and minimize credit risk and bad debt exposure. The Senior Manager of Credit and Collections leads and develops a high performing credit and collections team, develops and updates credit policy, monitors economic trends and partners cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, Finance, Legal, and Executive Leadership.
This position plays a critical role in merger and acquisition integration, external financing partnerships, and ensuring compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations. Essential Functions:
- Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all credit and collections activities supporting commercial and residential customers. Develop, implement, and continuously improve credit policies, standards, and procedures to balance customer growth, risk mitigation, and cash flow optimization. Serve as a senior advisor to internal stakeholders on credit risk, collections strategy, and customer credit issues, providing guidance that supports sound business decisions.
Primary contact and liaison with attorneys, courts, and collection agencies in pursuit of outstanding debt. - Approves bad debt write offs in accordance with company policy.
- Lead, mentor and develop direct reports, including performance feedback, management and talent development. Responsible for recruiting, hiring and retaining qualified credit and collections professionals.
- Oversee credit and collections integration related to mergers and acquisitions across applicable business segments.
- Partner with acquired businesses to transition credit processes and policies before completing IT system and systems integration.
- Collaborates with internal resources to develop standardized credit and collections reporting, dashboards, and analysis; provide insights on trends, exposure, and performance.
- Monitor economic conditions and industry trends impacting credit risk and proactively adjust strategies as needed.
- Collaborate with General Counsel to ensure compliance with state and federal laws governing credit and collections. Provide updates/training to staff and/or stakeholders as applicable.
- Communicate regularly with Sales Managers, General Managers, Regional Directors and Senior Leadership regarding credit terms, aging, and risk exposure; facilitates resolution of escalated credit conflicts.
- Perform collections functions for employee fuel and service accounts, including telephone and email contact for payment on delinquent balances and negotiation of payment plans.
- Commercial Credit Functions:
- Review and approve new commercial credit applications for large volume accounts in accordance with established credit policy and regulatory requirements.
- Provide ongoing oversight of large commercial accounts , determining collection actions, delivery status, and changes to credit terms, in collaboration with sales and operations as needed.
- Report on status of large commercial accounts to Senior Leadership.
- Conduct periodic review for large commercial accounts.
- Provide support and guidance to the credit team on complex commercial credit issues.

- Assists with special projects and other work-related duties as assigned.
Experience:
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of previous credit and collections management experience, including commercial credit management.
Education:
A bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting or related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Contacts:
Frequent interaction with customers, senior leadership, sales and operations management, legal counsel, and external vendors and partners.
Decisions Made:
This position makes credit decisions to ensure business growth while minimizing risk. Approval for extending credit to large commercial accounts is made in consultation with General Counsel, Director of Business Optimization, and other stakeholders.
