Qualifications & Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 3 to 5 years full-time experience in elderly care, either in a personal care or institutional setting (such as a hospital or nursing home), or one year of full-time experience within the last five years providing direct client care in a home care agency setting
  • Evidence of a sympathetic attitude toward elderly care
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and carry out directions
  • Evidence of maturity and ability to deal effectively with job demands
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Participate in professional meetings when directed
  • Ability to work closely supervised to ensure competence in providing client care
  • Must have a criminal history check conducted before being offered a position with the agency
Responsibilities
  • Assist with personal care and hygiene
  • Assist clients with ambulation and mobility
  • Support clients in taking prescribed medications as directed
  • Plan and prepare nutritious meals based on clients’ needs
  • Complete grocery shopping for clients or accompany them as needed
  • Perform light housekeeping duties and report any unusual incidents or changes in client condition
  • Act quickly, responsibly, and calmly in emergencies
  • Supervise, guide, and support caregiver/aide staff during shifts
  • Serve as a point of contact between caregivers, clients, and management
  • Ensure care plans are followed and care standards are maintained
  • Assist in training and mentoring new caregivers
  • Monitor staff performance and report concerns or incidents to management
  • Complete required documentation and shift reports accurately and on time
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Physical Demands
  • Sufficient visual and hearing ability to comprehend written and verbal communication
  • Perform tasks involving activity, which may include heavy lifting and extensive bending and standing
  • Deal effectively with stress
  • Work assigned hours per week
  • Bend and stand an average of six (6) hours per day
  • Lift up to 50+ pounds
  • Work in a stressful environment
  • Drive up to 50+ miles per day
Additional Requirements
  • Assess and communicate with ill clients, co-workers, and the general public
  • Must have a passion for caregiving and a desire to help others
  • Must be neat in appearance and practice good personal hygiene
  • Must have a reliable means of transport
  • Must have a valid proof of a negative TB test, or be willing to get tested
  • Must have CPR and First Aid certifications from a recognized provider
