High Performance Buildings
Portland, ME| Hybrid

A growing consulting engineering firm with deep roots in New England is seeking an Energy Engineer to lead energy modeling and performance optimization for impactful building projects throughout the region.

This role is designed for an engineer who wants to shape how buildings perform, influence design decisions early, and contribute to energy efficiency, decarbonization, and resilient outcomes.

What you will lead

  • Develop energy models that directly guide building design
  • Analyze utilities, life cycle costs, and electrification strategies
  • Translate energy code and performance targets into practical solutions
  • Produce clear, decision-ready technical reports
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, sustainability, and project teams
  • Communicate results and recommendations to clients and partners
  • Support proposals with data-driven energy insights

Why this opportunity matters

This team engineers buildings that are efficient, resilient, and thoughtfully designed, not just compliant. You will:

  • Have your work influence real design decisions from early planning through execution
  • Work in a multidisciplinary environment where energy strategy matters
  • Enjoy hybrid flexibility while staying connected to a supportive design team
  • Be part of a collaborative culture that values practical creativity and professional growth
  • Help advance projects that improve occupant comfort, performance, and long‑term value

This is more than modeling work. It is energy leadership embedded in the building design process.

What you bring

  • 5+ years of building energy modeling experience
  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as eQuest, DOE‑2.3, and/or IES Virtual Environment
  • Experience with energy codes, electrification planning, and life cycle cost analysis
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills
  • A collaborative mindset that thrives on solving performance challenges

Preferred:

  • Energy‑related certifications like CEM, BEMP, LEED AP, or interest in pursuing them

This is an excellent move for an engineer who wants technical influence, sustainability impact, and long‑term career growth.
