Maine Health Geriatric Care Consults Portland is currently seeking a Board-Certified Internist or Family Medicine physician with clinical skill in Geriatric Medicine (fellowship, advanced training or clinical experience) to join our team in the Southern Region of Maine Health. Applicants with experience are preferred, but physician mentorship opportunities are available for newly graduated Fellows with a demonstrated interest in developing leadership skills.

As part of a collaborative clinical team (PA/NP/MA), your dedication to the practice of medicine and desire to know your patients can be fulfilled. This part-time (.5 FTE) position involves serving as medical director in our nursing home practice and offers opportunities to participate in your interests such as academic leadership, inpatient consultation and geriatric assessment.

We are open to candidates seeking full-time, part-time, or per diem work schedules!

This position also provides some flexibility dependent on applicant interest: opportunities to participate in inpatient consultation or outpatient geriatrics assessment exist, as do opportunities for academic leadership (IM rotation director, coordination of a medical student geriatrics elective rotation and teaching APP students, residents and geriatrics fellows).

Responsibilities
  • Serve as medical director in our nursing home practice.
  • Participate in inpatient consultation and outpatient geriatrics assessment as requested.
  • Contribute to academic leadership, including roles such as IM rotation director and coordinating geriatrics-related educational activities for students, residents, and APPs/fellows.
  • Collaborate with a team of physicians, PAs, NPs, and MAs to provide comprehensive geriatric care.
Qualifications
  • Board-Certified Internist or Family Medicine physician with clinical skill in Geriatric Medicine (fellowship, advanced training or clinical experience).
  • Experience preferred; mentorship available for newly graduated Fellows with leadership interest.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative clinical team and dedicate time to know patients.

The Division of Geriatrics has built a foundation for Maine's older adults that encompasses all aspects of geriatric care, including inpatient and outpatient services, community resources and access to health care practitioners specifically trained in geriatrics. The Division currently has 15 experienced physicians and 14 Advanced Practice Providers. Our Geriatric Physicians, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioners also provide ongoing primary patient care at area nursing homes and New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland.

The group provides care in other hospital service areas including Maine Health Maine Medical Center Biddeford, Maine Health Stephens Hospital, and Maine Health Franklin Hospital with a goal of assuring excellent geriatrics care across Maine Health.
