Position OverviewWe are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our commercial real estate accounting team. This position plays a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations and will work closely with both Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP). The Staff Accountant will own the month-end close process for a dedicated portfolio of commercial properties
, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal and external reporting requirements.
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Own and manage the full month-end close process for a portfolio of 10 properties
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including balance sheets and income statements
- Perform detailed P&L analysis and investigate variances
- Prepare monthly cash flow reports and analyze cash needs
General Accounting & Reconciliations
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations for assigned properties
- Maintain general ledger activity and ensure accurate coding of transactions
- Partner with AR and AP teams to ensure transactions are properly recorded and issues are resolved promptly
Property Accounting
- Prepare and process CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reconciliations and assist with annual CAM true-ups
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes as needed
- Assist with tenant ledger reviews, billing accuracy, and lease abstracting support when required
- Work cross-functionally with Property Management, AR, AP, and the Accounting Manager
- Support year-end audits and provide requested schedules and documentation
- Participate in ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and special projects as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- 1–3 years of accounting experience; commercial real estate or property management experience strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP and standard accounting procedures
- Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with property management/accounting software (e.g., Yardi, MRI, Real Page) is a plus
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and time-management abilities
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across departments
