Cousins Maine Lobster is adding a General Ledger (G/L) Junior Accountant to our growing finance team.
The G/L Junior Accountant will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our company's financial operations. In this energetic position, you will manage the processing of vendor invoices, perform detailed account reconciliations, and ensure GAAP F/S reporting compliance by working closely with the Finance team to maintain GAAP accounting standards and internal controls.
Your expertise will help maintain seamless financial workflows, contributing to the overall health of our organization’s financial reporting. The CML G/L Junior Accountant will also provide administrative and technical support to the finance team by making bank deposits, maintaining finance electronic files, specialized accounting data entry, and assisting in general office administration.
Core Responsibilities- Accounts Payable (AP): Matching vendor invoices to purchase orders, verifying approvals, and processing payments.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Process and verify accounts payable transactions using accounting software such as Quick Books, Sage, or Workday, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Perform account reconciliations and review journal entries related to accounts payable and general ledger accounts to maintain data integrity.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Assist month‑end closings, including accruals, expense allocations, and GAAP compliance.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Collaborate with vendors, other departments, and the Finance Team to resolve discrepancies and ensure smooth accounts payable operations.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Maintain detailed records of all transactions, including invoice processing, payment approvals, and account reconciliations using systems like ADP, Food Connex, Revel, and Quick Books.
- Accounts Payable (AP): Contribute to process improvements by identifying opportunities for automation or efficiency enhancements within accounts payable workflows.
- Accounts Receivable (A/R): Generating customer invoices, processing incoming payments, and following up on delinquent accounts.
- General Ledger (G/L) Account Analyses: Monitoring assigned G/L accounts by completing monthly and year‑to‑date analyses to review and assess the appropriateness of posting classifications. This includes learning and explaining the composition of the account balances in CML’s several companies.
- Reconciliations: Comparing bank and credit card statements with the general ledger to identify and report acceptable differences and suggest correcting journal entries to resolve discrepancies.
- Report Preparation: Compiling financial summaries, expense reports, and month‑end statements for management review.
- Administrative Support: Maintaining organized physical and digital filing systems, answering phones, and handling mail.
Skills and Qualifications
- Education: Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred. Business degree with a concentration in accounting courses will be considered.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong command of Microsoft Office Suite incl;
Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, One Note, etc. Excel experience should include amortization schedules, debt schedules, depreciation schedules, pivot tables, and financial analyses. Additional ERP experience with accounting software similar to Sage, Xero, Quick Books or Net Suite is essential. - Soft Skills: High attention to detail for error spotting, strong time management to meet reporting deadlines, and professional communication for vendor/client interactions. A general sense of knowing when to ask questions to maintain the productive efficiency of a busy department is needed.
- Integrity: Absolute reliability in handling confidential financial information and adhering to GAAP standards is required.
- Proven experience in accounting roles focusing on accounts payable functions within a corporate accounting environment.
- Solid understanding of financial concepts such as debits & credits, double‑entry bookkeeping, and general ledger accounting.
- Demonstrated ability to perform account reconciliation, journal entries, data entry with high accuracy (10‑key adding machine skills preferred).
- Excellent analysis skills for reviewing financial data and identifying discrepancies or anomalies.
