CDL A Drayage & Delivery Driver (3rd Shift) at MSI summary:

The CDL A Drayage & Delivery Driver is responsible for transporting cargo containers from ports to MSI locations and performing local multi-stop deliveries of flooring and counter top products. The role requires a valid Class A CDL, experience with handling heavy container loads, compliance with DOT regulations, and strong safety awareness. This entry-level, full-time position operates mainly during the night shift and includes physical demands such as lifting, climbing, and securing cargo safely.

Summary: As a CDL A Drayage & Delivery Driver, you will be responsible for safely transporting cargo containers from ports to MSI locations and returning empty containers. You will also be performing local, multi-stop deliveries of counter top and flooring products to customers, ensuring timely service and full compliance with all transportation regulations.

Work Hours: Sunday to Thursday from 07:00 PM to 06:00 AM

Compensation: This hourly, non-exempt position pays from $25.75 to $28.75 per hour, with overtime compensated at 1.5 times the base rate. New hires usually earn between $84,800 and $107,000 annually, or more, depending on experience, overtime hours, and bonuses.

Responsibilities:

  • Transport cargo containers from ports to designated MSI locations and return empty containers.
  • Navigate port procedures efficiently while ensuring full regulatory compliance.
  • Open container doors, unlock empty containers, and secure loaded containers onto chassis.
  • Hook and unhook containers; assist with loading, unloading, and securing cargo as needed.
  • Perform local, multi-stop deliveries of flooring and counter top products to MSI customers using flatbed and dry van trailers.
  • Operate vehicles safely and remain alert at all times.
  • Work independently with a strong focus on safety and service excellence.
  • Adapt to changing delivery schedules while maintaining a customer-focused attitude.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrate patience and professionalism when interacting with other drivers and the public.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class A Driver’s License.
  • Valid TWIC Card.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of verifiable experience operating Class A commercial trucks.
  • Demonstrated experience hauling overweight containers (combined truck and container weight of 95,000 to 105,000 lbs.).
  • Comfortable handling local deliveries with multiple stops, including assisting with loading and unloading at each location.
  • Successful completion of a road test and all DOT pre-employment requirements.
  • Strong safety focus with the ability to maintain accurate and compliant electronic logs.
  • Proficient in using POD and ELD applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret bills of lading and picking sheets.
  • Previous experience using an iPad or tablet preferred.

This role has the following physical demands:

  • Generate 137lbs of vertical push/pull force.
  • Able to lift and transfer 65lbs.
  • Able to carry at least 30lbs the length of the truck bed.
  • Able to ascend and descend multiple-rung ladder.
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch.
  • Able to work at elevated height of 72” above the ground while assembling and disassembling strap, ties, ratchets, nuts, bolts, and other securing or fastening equipment.
  • Able to work at lowered height of 6” above the ground while assembling and disassembling strap, ties, ratchets, nuts, bolts, and other securing or fastening equipment.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position.
