Alternate Vehicle Driver-Out of District Educational programs and Food Service Assistant

7.5 Hr/Day, Monday through Friday

Estimated: 4.0 hour drive time; 3.5 hours food service

This position is a combined car/van driver and food service assistant. It is subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, SEIU Local 925. The position reports to the Director of Transportation and the Food Service Director for their respective responsibilities.

POSITION: Alternate Vehicle Driver-Food Service Assistant

Current Schedule is as follows:

  • Drive from 7:20 am to 9:20 am
  • Food Service from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm
  • Drive from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm

Schedule flexibility is required due to district and out of district school calendars.

Driver Duties
  • Drive to students’ homes, then to out of area school programs (currently in Poulsbo). Return students home at end of day.
  • Ability to interact with special needs students.
  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to keep a schedule.
  • Be willing to drive in all weather conditions.
  • Be physically able to perform daily routine safety inspections.
Qualifications
  • Current WA State Driver’s license.
  • Type II certification.
  • Clear driving record.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
  • Random drug and alcohol tests.
  • Current first aid card/CPR.
  • Age 21 years or older.
  • Five years driving experience in car or van.
  • CDL physical examination.
Food Service Responsibilities
  • Prepare fruits and vegetables for up to 500 students.
  • Serve a scratch cooked reimbursable meal to students and staff.
  • Understand and help prepare and organize meals for students with food allergies and different food.
  • Complete food service tasks in a quick and efficient manner.
  • Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and dishes, ability to use commercial dishwashers.
  • Deliver meals to students and staff in their classrooms.
  • Assist other employees in basic food preparation tasks.
  • Set up and prepare serving areas.
  • Ability to operate an automated computer meal system.
  • Ability to handle money and make accurate bank deposits daily.
  • Ability to reconcile cash at the end of shift.
  • Specific jobs as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor.
Food Service Qualifications
  • Good health, both mental and physical.
  • Possess the physical capabilities to perform the job; including lifting of supplies in excess of 40 pounds and maneuvering equipment loaded with food or supplies. Ability to stand on your feet for at least five hours.
  • Ability to work fast and complete tasks quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Ability to multi-task and think quickly on your feet.
  • Ability to apply child nutrition guidelines and requirements, including portion control.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with all district employees.
  • Neat in appearance and appropriately attired at all times.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and sanitary work environment.
  • Required to have a current Washington State Food Handler's permit.
  • Required to have a valid driver's license and may be required to drive a food delivery truck.
  • Ability to learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to follow district policies.
  • Reliable Attendance is essential.

Salary Range: 2025-26 Salary Range $23.14- $28.74 per hour, depends on school district experience and in accordance with the SEIU negotiated contract.
