We believe that our strength is not just in our steel but the diversity of our workforce. Our people make the difference.

What you will do

We are currently looking to recruit a Rail Inspector for our onsite rail services team.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to be a part of a team which inspects and maintains over 20km of private rail within the South Wales area. The primary place of work will be Port Talbot, however you may be required to support other sites within the UK Tata group. A driving license is essential for this role.

You’ll be expected to take pride in your work, keeping the area clean and tidy and always looking for ways to improve how things are done. Most importantly, you’ll carry out every task with safety at the forefront – following site rules and making sure you and those around you go home safe each day. If you are qualified, competent and experienced within the rail industry, a great team member and want to make a difference, this may be the role for you.

Track inspecting qualification is beneficial but not essential as training will be provided. When inspections are completed you will integrate into the maintenance team to lead and support on routine maintenance, renewals and upgrades.

Flexibility is essential, as the nature of the work makes it necessary for the team, between them, to be prepared and available to meet the current work requirements which are outside of normal working hours including nights, weekends, evenings and public holidays to cover emergency and unplanned rail events at Llanwern and Port Talbot to ensure business continuity.

You will undertake all tasks associated with Permanent Way inspection, maintenance, installation and renewals. You will undertake Person In Charge of Working Party duties including completing the Point Of Work Risk Assessment, signing permits and liaising with other departments where required to ensure work requirements are able to proceed. You may lead a small team providing work instructions and cover Team Leader duties during periods of absence.

The work pattern is Monday to Friday, 39 hours per week on a day shift basis, offering an excellent work/life balance.

Monday – Thursday 07:30-15:30.

Friday 07:30 –14:30.
