Do you want to play a pivotal role in one of the most ambitious engineering projects in Europe?

“Project Invictus” is recruiting, and it’s not often that opportunities like this come along. Project Invictus is a mega project – a large‑scale, complex venture that will cost over £1 billion and take years to develop and build safely. This project involves multiple stakeholders and will have a significant impact on the economy, the environment, and society.

As we embark on the construction of the largest electric arc furnace in the world, you’ll be part of a team that is driving engineering excellence. This project represents a transformative step towards a green, decarbonised future and a fundamental restructure of how we do business.

The engineering challenges are immense and exciting. You’ll be involved in cutting‑edge technology and innovative solutions that will set new industry standards. From initial design through to final implementation, this project will test and expand your engineering skills.

Be a part of this ground breaking project with us and lead the controls that keep a mega‑project on track.

We are looking for a Head of Project Performance and Controls to join our Senior Leadership Team for a major industrial transformation project in South Wales. This is a pivotal role, responsible for designing and implementing the project controls framework that ensures delivery on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of safety and quality.

You will lead a multi‑disciplinary team and oversee contractors providing project controls support, enabling strong governance and daily visibility of progress across cost, schedule, risk, and change management.

What you will do
  • Develop and maintain project controls frameworks covering cost, schedule, risk, change, document control, and performance reporting.
  • Standardise tools, processes, and templates across the programme.
  • Establish cost and schedule baselines, deploy cost estimating, forecasting, Earned Value Management (EVM), and schedule tracking using tools like Primavera P6.
  • Implement robust risk and opportunity management processes and lead change control.
  • Deliver daily, weekly, and monthly performance reporting, variance analysis, and executive dashboards for senior stakeholders.
  • Lead and mentor a team of cost controllers, schedulers, risk analysts, and document controllers.
  • Collaborate with procurement, finance, engineering, and supply chain teams, representing project controls at governance forums and audits.
  • Support tender submissions through cost modelling, schedule planning, and risk estimation.
What you will bring
  • Significant leadership experience in project controls on large‑scale UK infrastructure or energy projects.
  • Advanced knowledge of planning and scheduling tools (Primavera P6), cost control, forecasting, EVM, risk management, and document control.
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills with the ability to influence decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable at senior and board level.
  • Proven track record managing multi‑million‑pound budgets and driving commercial outcomes.
  • Familiarity with UK NEC and FIDIC contracts.
  • Degree in Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction, or related field.
  • Demonstrable competence in managing multi‑million pound budgets and driving commercial outcomes.
