Qualifications,

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Demonstrated experience and/or training in the trade skills of carpentry, concrete, plumbing, electrical, and painting
  • Knowledge of the proper and safe use of power tools and equipment used in various trades
  • Knowledge and experience in custodial duties such as floor and carpet care including machinery used
  • Knowledge and understanding of biomedical waste and supplies and the proper storage and disposal
  • Knowledge of safety hazards of buildings and grounds including maintaining hazardous chemical lists
  • Knowledge and experience in inspections, warranties and service contracts
  • Planning and managing projects
  • Computer literacy
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work well with co-workers and other IRSC faculty and staff
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Valid Florida driver’s license

Preferred (if applicable):

  • Additional education in college, technical or trade school
  • Training and experience with fire and security alarms, HVAC equipment
  • Some knowledge of the use and repair of audio-visual equipment
  • Work experience in building maintenance
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

The essential job functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • General maintenance tasks and routine repairs across skilled trades
  • Understand accepted repair practices in various skilled trades
  • Shampooing carpets and scrubbing floors to maintain appearance
  • Vacuuming, dusting, and keeping classrooms clean and ready for use
  • Advise the provost when a situation requires attention
  • Locking and opening buildings and setting alarms
Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Changing light bulbs
  • Adjusting and repairing doors, locks and windows
  • Repairing and replacing shelves and cabinets
  • Assembling and repairing office desks, chairs, computer stations; repairing tile, carpet, drywall and door frames
  • Maintenance of plumbing and minor electrical and HVAC equipment (changing filters, belts, greasing)
  • Custodial duties involving cleaning of classrooms, carpets, floors and lavatories
  • Setting up chairs, tables, PA systems and audiovisual equipment for classes and events
  • Keeping classrooms clean and ready for use by students
  • Informing the provost of safety concerns requiring immediate attention
  • Offering suggestions for campus maintenance improvements
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to walk, bend, lift, reach, stoop, use ladders and other equipment, operate a motor vehicle, and occasionally lift items over 50 pounds. Must be in good physical condition and able to use standard office machines. IRSC expects adherence to proper safety standards.
