this is a contractual temporary position not to exceed 12 months from the date of hire. This position is full time, 40 hours a week. After the applicable waiting period, the individual will be eligible for health benefits.
responsible for operating the weapons detection systems (wds) equipment to screen individuals, bags, or items, ensuring security protocols are met and identifying metal objects at security checkpoints. The wds specialist is responsible for deterring crime, alerting police to apprehend individuals carrying illegal weapons, reducing response times to potential threats, and to acknowledge the role of technology in improving police capabilities while emphasizing the need to uphold ethical and legal standards.

- keeps the mission, vision, and values of the city of port st. Lucie at the forefront of decision making and action; builds strategic and collaborative relationships and interacts with others in a way that builds confidence and trust; provides excellent customer service by taking action to accomplish objectives, maintains high levels of work and productivity by generating innovative solutions to work situations.
- operating and monitoring the wds, assisting the public and contacting the port st. Lucie police department municipal complex officers when necessary for assistance. Observing activity at entry/exit points to promote security and identify unusual behavior, reporting to officers.
- ensuring all visitors and employees follow established metal detector policies. All visitors must pass through the weapons detection system.
- if the wds signals an alert, the municipal complex security support personnel will advise the visitor that they can be escorted through the building by the municipal complex officer or they can secure the item causing the alert, prior to clearance to entry into city hall.
- maintaining high safety standards, identifying hazards and following all workplace safety rules.
- visitors are required to sign in and to provide identification to enter a city facility except when making a public records request or attending a duly called meeting in the city council chambers or other meeting room scheduled for conducting a public meeting.
- upon clearance by the municipal complex officer, visitors must approach the designated sign-in desk. A log will be provided to enter name, location of business transaction, and time.
- visitors needing to enter a restricted access area shall sign-in with the municipal complex officer and/or customer service employee at the information desk. The visitor shall receive a visitor sticker allowing entry into restricted access areas of city hall.
- visitors located in a restricted access area without an escort, identification badge, or vendor pass who do not properly identify themselves when questioned by a city employee must be reported by that employee to the municipal complex officer or 911.
- all vendors and deliveries will enter through the main city hall entrance.
- vendors will be required to sign in on the visitors to log and receive a visitor sticker before proceeding to their intended location. Vendors that require an escort will be determined by the municipal complex officer.
- staff at the information desk will assist in directing deliveries through the restricted access area to the designated drop-off area for packages and contacting personnel expecting deliveries.
- may perform basic calibration and checks of equipment as per procedure.
- documenting findings and reporting any suspicious items or violations.
