Overview
The Behavior Technician provides direct support to individuals with behavioral, developmental, and learning needs under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA). The Behavior Technician implements behavior intervention plans, supports skill development, and assists clients in achieving individualized goals in educational, therapeutic, and community environments.
Key Responsibilities- Implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) as designed by supervising BCBA/BCaBA
- Provide one-on-one and group behavioral support in classrooms, therapy settings, and community environments
- Collect accurate data on behavior, skill acquisition, and progress toward goals
- Support students with social skills, communication, emotional regulation, and daily living skills
- Assist in managing challenging behaviors using positive, ethical, and trauma-informed practices
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, school staff, and families to ensure consistency of care
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with FERPA, HIPAA, and applicable district and state regulations
- Participate in training, supervision meetings, and professional development activities
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation and reporting
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, social work, or related field preferred
- Prior experience working with children or individuals with developmental or behavioral needs preferred
- Ability to follow written behavior plans and receive ongoing supervision and feedback
- Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in high-stress situations
- Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification (preferred or willingness to obtain)
- CPI, PCM, or other approved crisis intervention training
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the day
- Ability to safely assist and redirect individuals as needed
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (as required by assignment)
- Public and private school settings
- Indoor and outdoor activities as required
