Position: WDVA Registered Nurse 2, On-Call, Washington Veterans Home

Overview

Registered Nurse 2 On-Call at Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, Washington. Deliver skilled, compassionate care to residents and supervise frontline staff.

As a Registered Nurse 2, you will assist in the delivery of nursing and nursing-related care to residents and supervise frontline staff.

This position is eligible for the "Supplement Basic Shift Premium" for 24/7 facilities. The premium is $1.00 per hour of basic shift premium for each hour of basic shift premium. The premium does not apply to overtime hours. The premium expires on June 29, 2027.

Some of what you’ll do
  • Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
  • Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to self-administer, or monitor self-pour medications.
  • Maintain incident logs and provide learning experiences and feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit.
  • Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents’ needs in a respectful, homelike environment.
  • Maintain open communication and information-sharing with staff.
  • Assist in the presentation of training materials to staff.
  • Perform nursing assessments of residents as necessitated by the condition of the resident, and quarterly Minimum Data Set completion.
  • Assume responsibility for self-development by awareness of new techniques and medications.
  • Make rounds regularly to ensure unit expectations are met.
  • Hold the staffing book as assigned.

Required
  • Valid Washington state registered nurse license or unencumbered RN multistate license.
  • Knowledge of nursing and restorative care methods, infection control procedures, and resident rights.
  • Ability to:
    • Assess, evaluate, and participate in development of care plans.
    • Plan, implement, and document discharge planning and perform selected nursing procedures.
    • Provide a positive living environment addressing psychosocial needs and document observed changes in patient condition and behavior.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
Preferred/Desired
  • Valid Washington state RN license.
  • Long-term care experience.
Special Requirements
  • Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000.
  • Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per policy 670.000.
  • Must lift up to 60 lbs, reach 36 inches, and perform routine physical tasks with proper technique.
  • Requires medical evaluation, fit testing, training, and use of respiratory protection as required by standards. Must wear PPE as required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Must maintain a valid RN license and regular attendance; willing to work as needed.
  • Must complete mandatory orientation and annual in-service training.
  • Must comply with DVA policies and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • Must sign confidentiality agreement.
  • Positions requiring travel must have a valid unrestricted driver’s license and be insured if driving on state business.
  • Must have work authorization that does not require future visa sponsorship.
