Overview
Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) is hiring a Registered Nurse 2 On-Call for the Washington Veterans Home in Port Orchard, Washington. Provide skilled, compassionate nursing care to residents and supervise frontline staff. This role is on-call within the home’s operations.
Duties- Maintain healthcare records according to current policies and procedures.
- Administer medications and treatments for residents unable to do so themselves or monitor self-pour medications.
- Maintain incident log and provide feedback regarding incidents for direct care staff on unit.
- Encourage and empower residents and staff to meet residents needs in a respectful, homelike environment.
- Maintain open communication with staff and assist in presenting training materials to staff.
- Perform nursing assessments of residents and complete quarterly Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments as required.
- Take responsibility for self-development by staying aware of new techniques and medications.
- Make rounds regularly to ensure unit expectations are met and manage staffing as assigned.

- Valid Washington state registered nurse license or an unencumbered multi-state RN license.
- Knowledge of nursing and restorative care, personal hygiene, sanitation, recordkeeping, infection control, and resident rights.
- Ability to: assess and participate in care planning; discharge planning; provide a positive living environment; document observed changes; read, write, and speak English.
- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Valid Washington state RN license (additional licensure preferred).
- Long-term care experience.
- Must pass a DSHS Background Check prior to beginning and every two years per WDVA policy.
- Comply with annual Tuberculin Screening per policy.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs; reach 36" to stock shelves; push/pull; walk, sit, and bend as needed.
- Wear respirators and use related PPE as required; CPR/BLS certification required; maintain RN license.
- Regular and reliable attendance; complete orientation and mandatory training; comply with DVA policies and CBAs as applicable; sign confidentiality agreement.
- Valid unrestricted driver s license if travel is required; be eligible to work without visa sponsorship.
