Purpose Statement
The job of Para educator
- Kindergarten is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with individual and/or small groups of students, teachers, and other certificated staff to implement instructional goals; developing students' learning, physical, social, communication, and/or behavior skills; and evaluating students' progress on learning objectives.
Essential Functions
- Aid with classroom assignments, tests, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.
- Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, computer learning programs, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
- Attends meetings and trainings (e.g. first-aid, CPR, de-escalation, emergency procedures, etc.) for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.
- Communicates with students, teachers and/or parents for the purpose of assisting in evaluating progress and/or implementing objective.
- Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, instructional programs and lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.
- Maintains confidentiality at all times following HIPPA, FERPA, and IEP for the purpose of guidance and in accordance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
- Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, field trips, library, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Responds to emergencies, immediate first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
- Supports classroom teachers and other school personnel (e.g. clerical, collecting, and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials, etc.) for the purpose of assisting them in the implementation of curriculum and teaching methodologies.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Skilled in operating standard office equipment, using relevant software applications, and preparing and maintaining accurate records. Knowledgeable in basic math, written procedures, routine documentation, clear oral communication, and multi-step instructions. Able to schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; work with broad diversity of individuals; maintain confidentiality; set priorities; work as part of a team; and handle frequent interruptions.
Responsibility
Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures; providing information and/or advising others; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions.
Work Environment
Physical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; expected to spend 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. Work environment is generally hazard free.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education (Preferred): Para educator Certificate Program
Education (Minimum): At least eighteen years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent.
