We are seeking an experienced Fabrication Shop Quality Inspector to support piping, structural steel, and ASME code fabrication operations at our Port Lavaca facility. This role ensures compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable industry codes.
The Inspector will perform in-process and final inspections, coordinate NDE activities, maintain weld and material traceability, and develop turnover packages. This position requires strong knowledge of welding processes, fabrication practices, and applicable ASME/AWS standards.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
- Perform Visual Testing (VT) of welds and fabricated assemblies
- Conduct in-process and final inspections of piping, structural steel, and pressure components
- Verify compliance with WPS/PQRs, drawings, and fabrication procedures
- Monitor fit-up, welding parameters, preheat/interpass temperatures and PWHT
- Maintain weld mapping, heat number traceability, and MTR documentation
- Coordinate and review NDE (RT, UT, MT, PT) with subcontractors
- Build turnover packages and client data books
- Verify data plates/nameplates and code documentation
- Identify nonconformances and support corrective actions
- Support compliance with ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII, AWS D1.1, and client specifications
- 5+ years fabrication shop inspection experience
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, SAW)
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and isometrics
- Working knowledge of ASME and/or AWS codes
- Experience performing VT inspections
- Proficient in Bluebeam
- AWS CWI
- API 510 or 570
- Experience with piping and vessel fabrication
- Experience with weld mapping and MTR traceability
- Detail-oriented and documentation-driven
- Ability to work independently in a production environment
