PositionImpact 89FM is seeking a dynamic and creative student to serve as the Social Media Director. This is a director-level, paid staff position reporting to the Marketing Director and working with a staff of over 200 students. Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students at Michigan State University.

Position SummaryThe Social Media Director leads the station’s social media strategy and execution, managing platforms to enhance Impact 89FM’s visibility, engagement, and brand voice. This position oversees daily posting, campaign planning, content creation, and analytics reporting across platforms including Instagram, Twitter/X, You Tube, Bluesky, Facebook, and Tik Tok. The director works collaboratively across departments to promote station content, events, and initiatives. This role plays a key part in shaping how Impact 89FM connects with its audience and community.
Key Responsibilities- Platform Management:
Schedule and manage daily content across all official Impact 89FM social media accounts. - Content Creation:
Produce and publish original and curated content in alignment with the station’s editorial voice. - Promotion:
Coordinate organic promotional strategies. - Analytics & Reporting:
Monitor platform analytics and create regular reports to guide social strategy. - Community Engagement:
Interact with followers and audiences in a timely, professional, and on-brand manner. - Strategic Planning:
Brainstorm and implement innovative campaigns that reflect Impact 89FM’s voice and mission. - Collaboration:
Partner with departments across the station to promote content and initiatives. - Training & Mentorship:
Train and mentor staff members contributing to social media efforts. - Brand Oversight:
Help strengthen and maintain Impact 89FM’s brand consistency online. - Compliance:
Ensure all posts meet copyright, trademark, and MSU policy guidelines. - Project Management:
Complete assigned tasks within deadlines and contribute to station-wide goals.
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate student at Michigan State University.
- Strong understanding of social media platforms and emerging trends.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Timely communication skills and responsiveness during the standard work week.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented, self-driven, and highly organized.
- Comfortable working outside normal business hours as needed.
- Understanding of the Impact 89FM brand voice and tone.
- Experience at Impact 89FM or another media organization.
- Leadership experience and familiarity with the station’s mission, vision, and values.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Premiere).
- Knowledge of SEO, analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics), and content strategy.
- Experience managing social accounts for an organization or brand.
- Skills in multimedia content creation: video, audio, photography, or graphic design.
As the Social Media Director, you’ll play a key role in shaping the public presence of one of the top college radio stations in the country. You’ll gain experience in brand management, campaign development, analytics, and digital strategy while working alongside a collaborative and passionate team.
