RENTAL INSPECTION CLERK GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
To perform moderately complex clerical, record keeping activities, and to schedule all appointments and follow up inspections for the Rental Inspection Program. To accept applications and communicate through written and verbal means with rental property owners. Record daily reports of inspectors on the computer and assist in other clerical duties with divisions as necessary.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Work is performed under the supervision of the Planning Director and/or the Chief Building Inspection.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK:An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: (These examples do not include all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)
- Schedule all inspectors' appointments for the rental inspection program.
- Accept permit applications and utilize BS&A software. Send, track, and file billings along with certified mail.
- Complete reports when necessary.
- Prepare agendas for the Construction Board Appeals Board and prepare minutes or related items.
- Communicate with property owners/tenants.
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including fax, printer, e-mail, calendars/Microsoft Office, and computer software for inspections, rental and blight.
- Perform related work as required.
- Other clerical duties as necessary, such as, but not limited to: assist in clerical work under Inspection Division, Blight, Planning and/or Community Development.
- Compose and prepare written letters, reports, and other correspondence related to all programs.
- Assist in the preparation of blight letters and reports.
- Strong ability to communicate with the public effectively by telephone, letter and in person.
- Ability to plan and organize work.
- Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records and reports.
- Skill speed and accuracy in performing various clerical and typing tasks.
- Some knowledge of City Codes.
- Knowledge of the Windows Operating Systems and other computer software.
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees.
An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following training:
- Graduation from an accredited high school, including or supplemented by typing and/or commercial subjects.
- Knowledge of the English language.
- Computer experience with Windows, Microsoft Office Programs.
Monday – Friday; 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Salary Range:$45,000 - $50,000 annually
